Meet Lauren Small
From a very young age I felt naturally drawn to massage, often giving 'treatments' to my stressed out family members. Somehow, they always seemed to be uplifted and renewed afterwards, almost like the prickly 'stressed out' layer they had been carrying had been peeled off. Suddenly they were lighter and brighter ... and smiling! As an only child, it was a beautiful way to express appreciation for my older family members and to bring them back to the present moment with me. This is where I learned just how transformative massage can be.
Some years later, after many years of taking part in physical pursuits like martial arts and dance, I found myself being called back to massage and undertook the Holistic Massage Practitioner training at Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork. The entire course was nourishing, nurturing and transformative - precisely mirroring what a good massage should be.
I learned how to listen, to feel, to work with nurturing intention. Through my time working with clients (and personal experience!), I've witnessed the modern man/woman's yearning to switch off the 'noisy' brain and re-embody. This has lead me to further training in areas that have helped me understand the neuroscience behind the relaxation response - and crucially how we can better encourage it. At the same time I've explored the energetic elements of our human experience and how we can positively enhance those too. Naturally, these seemingly separate elements have overlapped, intertwined and woven themselves into my massage work meaning it is truly holistic in its approach.
To me each massage is a uniquely nurturing journey. As well as bringing ease and comfort to the body's structural components, it can be a route through which we reconnect with our whole selves so we can go forward and reconnect with our lives in more positive ways, experiencing more space and openness in body, mind, and if we wish, spirit. I'm so grateful I can be a part of all those journeys!
